Where to Stay in Sokcho — Areas Compared Honestly

Where you sleep in Sokcho decides how your days flow.

For the same money, the number of times you get in a car each day changes completely. With children, or without a car, that difference matters even more.

We can’t really recommend specific hotels — that isn’t ours to judge. But we can be honest about the areas. Here’s a comparison based on living here and listening to guests for years.

Beachfront (Sokcho Beach) — for walkers and sea views

What it’s like

Hotels and resorts clustered together with the sea right outside the window. The most popular place to stay in Sokcho.

Pros

• The beach, the Sokcho Eye, the express bus terminal and our restaurant are all walkable
• Ideal without a car — you can walk from the bus with your suitcase
• Step outside for a beach walk first thing in the morning
• Quick to get back when a child needs a nap

Cons

• The highest prices in peak summer
• Competitive booking; good rooms go early
• The beach side can get noisy on peak-season nights

Best for — travellers without a car, families with children, anyone who wants maximum sea time

Downtown / intercity terminal area — for market lovers

What it’s like

The city centre, close to Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market and local restaurants.

Pros

• Much better value. The same budget gets a bigger, newer room than on the beach
• Easy evenings of market browsing and late-night food
• Convenience stores, pharmacies and everyday amenities nearby
• Handy if you’re using the intercity bus terminal

Cons

• The sea is 5–10 minutes by car — too far to walk
• No sea views to speak of

Best for — travellers whose trip revolves around eating, and anyone watching their budget

Cheongchoho Lake / Expo area — for night views

What it’s like

Set on a lake rather than the sea, with plenty of resort-style accommodation.

Pros

• Calm lake scenery and attractive night views with walking paths
• Halfway between beach and downtown, so both are reachable
• Quieter than the beachfront
• Comparatively spacious rooms

Cons

• You’ll always need to travel a little in either direction
• Awkward if swimming is your main goal

Best for — travellers who want quiet, and those with a car

Seoraksan side — for hikers and nature

What it’s like

Condos and resorts around Seorakdong.

Pros

• Quiet, with excellent air
• Perfect for early starts up the mountain. A real advantage for dodging the autumn parking battle
• Genuinely feels like resting in nature

Cons

• 15–20 minutes by car to town or the beach — difficult without a car
• Few restaurants or conveniences nearby
• Fills up first during foliage season

Booking by season

Peak summer (mid-July to mid-August) Book about a month ahead. Beachfront places can be full even two months out. Prices run two to three times the norm.

October foliage season Surprisingly as competitive as summer, and the Seoraksan side goes first. For peak week (mid-October), book a month ahead.

Off season (November–March, June) Far more relaxed and much cheaper. Winter sea and snow-covered Seoraksan have a completely different appeal, and some travellers prefer this time precisely because it’s quiet.

Weekends vs weekdays Weekdays are clearly cheaper. If you can, aim for a Thursday or Sunday night.

Worth checking before you book

• Parking availability and cost — some beachfront properties charge or have limited spaces
• Check-in / check-out times — and whether they hold luggage. Most will
• What “ocean view” actually means — sometimes it’s a sliver from an angle
• Cooking facilities — helpful with children if you want to prepare something simple

Wherever you end up

Whichever area you choose, we’re right in front of Sokcho Beach, a 3-minute walk from Sokcho Express Bus Terminal, with a very large car park.

We’re easy to slot in before check-in or after check-out. Come with your luggage — park and eat.

We’re open 9:00 a.m. to 10:20 p.m. (last order 21:30). Plenty of guests eat with us as a late breakfast on their way out of town.
